A large part of our life
revolves around sharing our dogs with others in our
community. Robbie and Vincent are both certified therapy
dogs; members of Therapy Dogs International, Inc. The bulk of
their time is spent visiting and bringing enjoyment to hospice
patients, their caregivers and families. Robbie, a rough
collie, evokes many memories from his senior friends, of days gone by
and the good "collie dogs" they grew up with on the family
farm. Vincent is a clown (and a bit of a showboat), and never
grows tired of hearing comments of "what a beautiful dog" he is with
his flashy colors and charming manners! Both dogs also
participate in reading programs in local schools and public libraries,
helping children improve and gain confidence in their reading
skills. As an AKC canine ambassador, I also
have opportunities to instruct children on
how very important it is to be a responsible dog owner, and a good
friend to our canine companions. As an evaluator for the AKC
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program, I can also offer dog owners the
chance to test their own training skills and prove their dog is a "good
citizen".
